On November 19, the People's Government of Sichuan Province held a special study session on artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statements on learning, better grasp and execute the decisions and plans of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and further enhance the province's capability to promote high-quality development. Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, attended the session.

At the meeting, Shen Hengtang, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Liu Qingfeng, Chairman of iFLYTEK, gave thematic presentations respectively on "Development Trends and Industry Applications of Large Language Models" and "Technical Progress and Typical Use Cases in Artificial General Intelligence". They offered an in-depth analysis of the global and domestic trends in AI, systematically introduced advancements in large language models (LLMs) and other technologies, as well as their applications in various industries, and proposed recommendations for the development of AI in Sichuan.

This special study session was organized by the provincial government as a targeted learning event centered on the major initiatives currently being promoted within the province. Leaders and officials in the provincial government system will adhere to the principle of learning what is needed for their work and supplementing any knowledge gaps, make good use of the special study system, and engage in regular, in-depth, and systematic learning on key areas such as major economic development, technological frontiers, people's livelihood security, emergency management, workplace safety, and the rule of law. This approach will enable them to promptly grasp new domestic and international development trends and continuously improve their professional knowledge base to perform their duties and responsibilities more effectively.

Next-generation AI is experiencing explosive growth on a global scale, emerging as a pivotal driver for economic growth. The provincial government mandates that we deliver targeted and sustained efforts, give full play to the coordinated promotion mechanism for key industrial chains, compile and effectively use the industrial panorama map, formulate professional and impactful supportive policies, optimize the industrial development ecosystem, strengthen data security measures, and strive for breakthroughs in areas such as core technologies of LLMs, coordination across data, computing, electricity, and new-type infrastructure, introduction and cultivation of market entities and talent, and expansion of "AI+" application scenarios. These efforts aim to accumulate new momentum for the high-quality development of the entire province.

Dong Weimin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, chaired the special study session. Also present were Pubu Dunzhu, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Vice Governors Yang Xingping, Zuo Yongxiang, and Li Wenqing, and leading officials from relevant provincial departments, among others.
